Built-in Diagnostic Systems

When your Bosch dishwasher detects a problem within the system it will display an error or fault code. Bear in mind that Bosch dishwasher troubleshooting is only a guide to where the fault may lie. And you’ll probably need a qualified technician to carry out repairs safely.

Here’s a guideline to some Bosch dishwasher error codes:

E0 – this will be displayed when no fault codes are recorded

E01 or E1 – this indicates a heating issue

E2 – problems with the temperature sensor have been located

E3 – not filling with water is the issue here

E4 – pointing to a faulty water switch

E5 – signifying overfilling with water

E6 – sensing a faulty Aqua sensor

E9 – flood protection has been activated

E15 – Bosch dishwasher error code E15 implies there’s no water in the dishwasher or the water isn’t sensed

E22 – means that there’s residual water in the sump

E24 – Bosch dishwasher error code E24 represents a drainage error

E25 – is related to a drain issue

H24 – suggests a 24-hour delay in the power settings

Faults in More Detail

Won’t Start

Thermal fuses, door switches, and door latches can all be causes of your dishwasher not starting. The thermal fuse will immediately shut off the power if overheating is detected. A fuse that’s blown will prevent any function. Defective door switches and latches will stop the washer even if the door is closed.

The main control board provides the power to all dishwasher components. This could be a serious issue that requires the control board to be replaced. If buttons don’t respond on the control panel the touchpad may be faulty. And both the touchpad and the control panel may need to be exchanged.

If the timer isn’t working properly voltage may not be sent to the dishwasher so it won’t start. And the timer may need to be removed and replace. Book an appointment with an appliance repair specialist and get any of these issues quickly sorted.

Won’t Fill

The most common reasons for a dishwasher that won’t fill are related to the water inlet valve, float switch, or a problem with the water supply. The water inlet valve is responsible for letting the water into the appliance. If the valve is blocked or defective the water won’t flow. Calcium deposits will build up with time and can clog the valve with sediment.

The float switch prevents the dishwasher from overflowing. If the float switch gets stuck this will result in non-filling. Water pressure may be an issue as the inlet valve needs 20 psi to function effectively. You may need a technician with plumbing qualifications to help you here.

Won’t Drain

A Bosch dishwasher not draining is a common fault. And can be due to several things. A blocked filter caused by trapped food remnants may be the culprit. Or it could be a defective drain pump as obstructions can result in impeller blades not forcing the water out as they should.

Waste pipes can become blocked with cooling down fat or grease. And the drain pump can actually fail and need replacing. Drain valves, motor assemblies, and drain hoses can become clogged, or simply stop working effectively. Any repairs can easily be carried out by a professional.

Maintenance Tips

To help to avoid repairs there are some things you can do to care for your dishwasher:

  • Clean the interior with a warm cloth and household cleaner
  • Wipe the space between the door and the base of the tub
  • Remove food particles from spray arm holes with a pipe cleaner
  • Deodorise with a specifically designed dishwasher deodoriser
  • Use rust-removing solutions to eliminate rust stains
  • Clean the filter
  • Cover flaking paint on racks with touch-up paint
  • Don’t overload
