How To Stop Washing Machine Moving When Spinning

If your washing machine is positioned on an uneven floor this can cause issues with stability. And loading the appliance with an unbalanced weight or exceeding the loading capacity can cause the same kind of problems.

These are just some of the reasons why your appliance will walk and this effect can actually damage both the machine and your floors. See how to stop your washing machine moving when spinning here…

Level Up

Washing machine vibration can often be prevented by adjusting the legs. For this job, you’ll need a spirit level, a pry bar or wooden block to take the weight off the front legs, and some pliers. Put the level on top of the washer to identify the problem – gently rocking the appliance to give you an idea where it’s out of balance.

Return the washing machine to its original position and tilt the appliance back – resting it on the pry bar. Then turn the legs until the side of the washer fits flush. A helpful tip is to start with the feet screwed in as far as possible and then work from there. Use the pliers to tighten the locking nut against the frame of the washing machine to stop the leg from turning.

Rear self-adjusting legs level from side to side, but the accumulation of dirt and lint may prevent them from working properly. If the back isn’t level tip the machine up and then set it back down – this will allow the weight to loosen the legs.

Attach some non-slip anti-vibration pads to the base of the legs. This is another solution for how to stop the washing machine moving. These pads are made from rubber and can keep your appliance from walking and reduce vibration to the floor.

Silicone or anti-walk silent feet both limit appliance walking and are another resolution of how to stop the washing machine from moving. They’re available to fit all makes of washing machines and for top and front loaders.

Uneven Flooring

Washing machines will always make some vibrations as the drum spins rapidly when fully loaded. It’s more likely for a washing machine to move on a laminate or wooden floor. How to stop the washing machine moving on a laminate floor is again to ensure the machine is completely level by following the guide above.

Sometimes after careful levelling, the appliance will still move. This could be due to the flooring itself being unlevel. Use the spirit level to check this out, and if the floor isn’t level you may have to relocate the washing machine to an area that is.

How to stop your washing machine vibrating on a wooden floor is just the same. Check for damaged or missing legs, and worn out rubber padding. Then as before, use the spirit level to check for an uneven floor.

Integrated Washing Machines

How to stop an integrated washing machine moving is all down to having a firm foundation. Try using strips of wood screwed down to wooden flooring or stuck down with silicone to laminate floors. Checking that hoses aren’t kinked behind the machine can be useful as they can push the washing machine out of alignment.

Bear in mind that missing or damaged shock absorbers will also unbalance wash loads. If you continue to experience issues with your spin programme it could be more than just a levelling issue.
