Hotpoint Oven Problems And Troubleshooting

Hotpoint has been a household name since the early 1900s. A range of built-in ovens, double ovens, gas, electric, and steam ovens are widely available in today’s marketplace. Advanced features guarantee hassle-free cooking of the highest quality. Yet, on occasion technology does have its setbacks. See Hotpoint oven problems and troubleshooting here…

Common Hotpoint Oven Faults

Oven won’t turn on

This may be a problem with the oven timer as a defect in the automatic setting can cause the oven to stay off. Other frequent causes for the oven not turning on are a burned-out heating element, a faulty igniter that is unable to draw an electrical current through, or a spark electrode snag. There may be an incoming power problem or difficulties with electrical fuses and wires. The oven control board, safety valve, and pressure regulators all need to be checked by an expert.

Oven won’t heat

The issue here could be with your heating element, faulty wiring, or the selector switch. If the fan is running and the light is on this does indicate failed oven elements. You’ll need a technician with electrical qualifications to help fix all these problems. Incoming power needs to be assessed, and all wire connections need to be checked. Again, the oven control board will cause issues if not working properly.

Oven bakes unevenly

When the oven doesn’t bake evenly this could be caused by a faulty bake or broil element. Or a defective sensor that regulates the temperature. The convection element or motor could also be the culprits here. The convection element combines with other heating elements to heat the air circulating within the oven. And the motor drives the fan to circulate the air. The oven won’t heat evenly in either case if faults are detected.

Oven grill element doesn’t work

Your oven technician will need to check the grill element itself for defects. And the main oven thermostat if that’s used to regulate the grill temperature. The oven changeover switch or the overheat thermostat may also be at fault.

Oven is overheating

This is typically a thermostat failure. The oven thermostat regulates the temperature and is particularly difficult to test. And often not repairable and will need to be replaced. The thermostat’s copper tubing contains hydraulic fluid which expands as the temperature rises. This pressure increases until a small activator shuts off the heat. When this doesn’t happen, your oven will overheat.

Oven temperature is inaccurate

If your oven is burning or undercooking food this may be due to a broken thermostat. As the thermostat regulates the oven temperature when it stops working the correct temperature can’t be maintained.

Oven fan won’t turn off

If the oven control board is malfunctioning it could be sending a continuous voltage to the fan. And a failing thermostat can also cause the fan to run without stopping. A defective high limit thermostat will keep the fan running even when the oven has cooled down.

Oven won’t turn off

If your oven is equipped with a relay board and one of the relays fails, this could lead to a continuous voltage being sent to the heating element. Shorted out broil elements and burned out bake elements can also be the cause. The main oven control board relates sensor input and user settings to relay messages. And these may be continuous if the control board is defective.
