LG Dryer Problems And Troubleshooting

Find the most common LG Dryer Problems

LG dryer not starting

There are several common causes for your LG dryer not turning on. The main reason is typically that your appliance isn’t getting any power. This could be an issue with an inadequate incoming power supply or a problem with the electrical socket, dryer start switch, or wiring. Another component that may have to be assessed is the door latch. If this is faulty the safety device that detects that the door isn’t closed securely will activate and prevent your dryer from starting. A defective door latch will need replacing. Bear in mind that if the child lock is on this will disable all dryer functions and if your circuit breaker trips each time you switch your LG dryer on it may have to be reset.

LG dryer drum not turning

Possible causes include a broken drive belt. This wraps around the dryer drum and tension pulley and then around the drive motor pulley, and if damaged the drum won’t turn. If the drum rollers are worn and won’t spin freely this is also another reason for the drum not turning. The drum roller axle and drum bearings can also be defective. You’ll notice a squealing or grinding sound if this is the case. Drum glides or slides can wear out and this may put extra strain on the motor which will shut down, preventing the drum from turning. If the drive motor is faulty this can also result in a binding drum.

LG dryer not drying completely

When your dryer isn’t getting enough heat to dry your clothes properly it could be that it’s overheating and blowing the thermal fuse. This will need to be replaced, but this may not be the problem as it could be related to the heating element. If this has burned out then your dryer will be unable to heat properly to dry your clothes. Another culprit could be the blower housing thermostat which is a major problem as this controls the temperature of the air inside your dryer. These issues can all be diagnosed and quickly resolved by an experienced appliance repair technician.

LG dryer turns on but won’t spin

If your dryer won’t spin this is an indication that the rubber drive belt looped around the dryer drum has stretched or is damaged in some way that reduces friction and won’t let the drum turn. A defective idler pulley also provides tension to properly rotate the drum and if this pulley breaks the drum will be unable to spin. A faulty drive motor may also be responsible for your LG dryer not spinning. All of these issues can be checked out and fixed by a qualified appliance repair engineer.

LG dryer making buzzing noise

A buzzing noise from your LG dryer can indicate a faulty motor start winding or a motor capacitor that may be defective. If the noise is a humming sound this is actually a normal LG dryer noise as the blower pulls air out of the dryer as part of the typical operation. Other LG dryer problems include blocked dryer ducts that may be caused by excess lint trapped within your appliance or in the exhaust vents. This restricts the flow of air throughout the dryer resulting in the internal temperature rising and potentially causing a fire risk. The lint screen, exterior vent hood, and the rear dyer vent will all need to be checked and cleared as necessary.
