The heating element or flow-through heater control the water temperature and help with the drying process. If it burns out or suffers from an electrical or wiring fault it will need to be replaced. The thermostat is the other part that can commonly cause the water not to heat. The thermostat regulates the temperature throughout the wash cycle, and if defective won’t be able to communicate with the heating element to turn on and off to keep the required water temperature. Using a multimeter will determine which of these two parts is at fault, and both can be quickly repaired or replaced as necessary by a repair engineer. Bear in mind that if your dishwasher has a hot water supply the issue may not be with the dishwasher itself, but a problem elsewhere. If the hottest wash programme is actually working then the maximum temperature may be exceeded – this will result in the dishwasher detecting this and shortening the wash cycle.
